Stefan Boettjer
Managing Partner, CEO
ECDU
Among other things, Stefan can look back on many years of experience in the development and operation of data centers and the associated cybersecurity. He also has additional qualifications as an association-certified IT/IT expert and further training in the areas of pentesting and ethical white hacking. -
Stefan Böttjer founded Marble Madness GmbH, later ECDU, in 2013, which, in addition to specializing in cybersecurity, also focuses on individual software development and prototypes. For example, extensive and successful projects were implemented for Red Bull GmbH directly in Fuschl am See and Salzburg, as well as for the company BURDA Digital Broadcast.
Stefan was previously a founding partner and technical managing director of the digital broadcasting center Virtual-Planet in Munich from 2003, which was taken over by the satellite operator SES ASTRA in Luxembourg in 2008. The company's focus was on setting up and operating a data center for the digital broadcasting of a total of almost 50 television channels, as well as securing and protecting the corresponding content for subsequent satellite and cable feed.
Stefan's beginnings go back to training as a telecommunications system electronics engineer, in which he learned how to install alarm systems for a security company, including for banks and other critical areas. After his training and before the beginning of the Internet as we know it today, Stefan worked for many years as technical manager at POINT Computer GmbH in Munich, at the time one of two important companies in Germany that already produced modems and later also ISDN -Cards for networking computers. For this reason, Stefan has been familiar with the networking of our digital world as it is today from the very beginning. Together with Andreas Schreiner, the former founder of domainfinder.com, Stefan built and operated one of the largest known mailboxes, the Cyberspace BBS, in the mid-1990s. -
"Programming", "hacking", "electronics" and "networks" were a logical consequence over time, which intertwined as if by themselves and led to a deep understanding of programming languages such as C and ultimately focused on the core area and the focused on the issue of security vulnerabilities.
Stefan's focus as an "Ethical White Hacker" now lies in the areas of pentesting and redteaming and, for example, also plans and supports companies in which highly sensitive content is processed for AMAZON and NETFLIX. In addition, the ECDU also works as an expert and as a certified member of the Association of Experts and Data Protection Officers. It also advises law firms and prepares reports, for example in the area of software development or IT disputes. We are particularly interested in small and medium-sized companies, which are often neglected when it comes to security issues. For this reason, SMEs are the company's primary target group, which we have already successfully protected. Since 2022, especially thanks to Stefan's expertise, the ECDU has been an active participant in the Alliance for Cybersecurity in Germany, an initiative of the Federal Office for Information Security, which is assigned to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI).
He is currently expanding the 'European Cyber Defense Unit' (ECDU). This unit, which operates independently of the institutions set up by politicians and NATO, is made up of a team of experts and 'hackers'. Its main goal is to strengthen online protection at a European level, with a particular focus on the security of millions of end users.
